The AOL/TechCrunch Debacle: Twitter Sentiment Leaning Arrington’s Direction

Since it’s the hot tech story of the week, I decided to investigate the sentiment surrounding the falling out between Mike Arrington and AOL. After extracting the top 900 tweets posted today that contain both terms “Arrington” and “AOL”, we ran them through our sentiment engine to find out what the score is. Here’s how things shake out:

Neutral Tweets: 49%

davewiner: Arrington wants to stay at TC, or buy it back. Henry Blodget considers the likely outcomes. http://r2.ly/g6wq

Tweets from those who are amused or trying to make a joke: 23%

davenak: Bartz out at Yahoo! Arrington gives ultimatum to AOL. Google bids for Hulu. More buttered popcorn, please.

Tweets sympathetic to Arrington or negative toward AOL: 15%

howardlindzon: Loving that @arrington wants techcrunch back from $ aol and huffpo. Make it happen Mike.

Tweets sympathetic to AOL or negative toward Arrington: 7%

slasher: If you wanted editorial independence, @ Arrington, why would you ever sell TechCrunch to AOL in the first place

Tweets negative toward both Arrington and AOL: 2%

angry_drunk: I do love a story where I hate *all* of the players ( AOL, Huffington & Arrington ).

Unhappy/sad about the turn of events: 2%
