The Power of Social Search: What Foursquare Knows That Bing and Google Don’t

by Steve Broback on January 25, 2011

We just returned from Park City Utah where we hosted our Cadillac Tweet House party. I decided to dig into something that one of our guests mentioned regarding the irony of being unable to find the “Bing Bar” hospitality suite at Sundance using the Bing Search engine. I decided to try a couple of geographic searches using both Bing and Google. Below are the results for a search focusing on Park City, UT and for the string “Bing Bar”

First Bing:

Now Google:

Who can deliver? Foursquare of course!

The problem? Why, The Bing Bar isn’t in the phone book…

A quintessential example of how the new world of social and real-time is displacing the world of the static, centralized Web. If Google isn’t careful, real-time will do to them what they did to the yellow pages.

Attention Naveen and Dennis: expect the bidding war to begin!
