Making Films, Distributing Films, and Twitter – a Conversation With Oren Jacob, CTO of Pixar and Executive Producer of “Ready, Set, Bag!”
While Oren Jacob (@orenjacob) is best known for his role as Chief Technical Officer at Pixar Animation Studios, his online followers also know him as an engaged “Tweeter” and of his efforts as an independent filmmaker.
Jacob’s career in the film industry has spanned the creation of highly visible mega blockbusters to the distribution of small, independent documentaries. And in that 20 years, a few common truths have emerged. Story is the most important thing. Art as a team sport is really, really hard. Finding your audience always presents a challenge. And, as William Goldman put it, “nobody knows anything”.
In this informal session, Jacob will address some of these topics, provide examples of innovators who are testing a myriad of new approaches to telling their stories and to making their films, and share some of his personal journey through Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms as he distributes his film “Ready, Set, Bag!”
And, because he can’t help himself, Oren will inevitably end up sharing some of his insights into today’s world of digital animation.
